There is nothing like a red pen.
Lola and I received our first bits of feedback on the novel and so far, we are more exhilarated than intimidated. So yay.
Still, the task ahead of us seems daunting.
The biggest thing I'm struggling with is how much to change the book we wrote to fit a predefined idea of what it means to be "Paranormal Romance". I recognize there are rules. What I'm uncertain about is how and when to follow those rules. This project has always been about trying to create something with commercial viability. That may mean that we have to make choices that strip some of the character from our book. What I don't want to do is then create something that is exactly what this series is a reaction to - clichéd romance. WE think we can do it better. But can we if we want to sell it?
I guess that's the question we need to start to answer for ourselves. In the mean time, many thanks to the dear friends and critique partners who've given their time to this book.
